Exposition of the Teleological Proof in the Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion of the Summer of 1831
Abstract
We present a Portuguese translation of the section on the teleological proof in G. W. F. Hegel’s Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion, together with an introduction. We first translated the section from German into Portuguese and then analyzed and discussed it. In the course of this work, we consulted several major Brazilian translations of Hegel and compared the choices made by established translators in Brazil. In this section, Hegel examines the proof in dialogue with the philosophical tradition, particularly with Kant. In our view, the section’s chief contribution lies not only in Hegel’s historical treatment of the proof but also in his critical assessment of it and in the way he incorporates it into his system.
